Valerie Sherrard and Marsha Skrypuch formed Authors’ Booking Service in April of 2006. This service assists educators and librarians with finding young adult and children’s book creators who are qualified and willing to present at schools and libraries. We currently represent an impressive number of Canada’s best-known authors and illustrators. Our creators range from comic book writers and singers to Governor General award winners and nominees. We have storytellers and illustrators of a variety of backgrounds, and we have Forest of Reading nominees and winners. We have seasoned creators and brand new authors. The one thing that all of our creators have in common is that they love doing school and library presentations and they’re good at it! All of our presenters are required to have their Vulnerable Sector Screening clearance registered and up to date with the TDSB Police Services Office. At this time we are only able to consider applicants who have, in the past five years, been shortlisted for or who have won one of the Ontario Library Association Forest of Reading awards for children, like the Silver Birch, Blue Spruce and so on. Other awards of interest are the Governor General Award, or any one of the TD Children’s Literature Awards. We will also consider applicants with a strong publishing history from mainstream publishers who have been shortlisted for non-Ontario provincial readers’ choice awards, like the Hackmatack, MYRCA etc. Our criteria is necessarily strict based on our experience with respect to demand.
