Authors’ Booking
Service is pleased to announce that young adult author kc dyer is now scheduling
visits to Ontario schools for the coming school year. Please contact us
for available dates.
kc would love to
plan a visit to your school or library during this time. Her rate is
$350/half day, plus travel from Toronto. Rates for longer visits
negotiable.
kc dyer, author of a
historical fiction trilogy for young adults plus a contemporary novel,
has a brand new time travel now out, called A Walk Through a Window.
kc dyer is a dynamic
speaker who has presented to thousands of students and aspiring writers
across Canada and in the US and UK.
Here is what
Margaret O'Brien, head librarian, Vancouver Technical Secondary School
had so say about a recent visit:
"Just writing to thank you again for taking part in VanTech's
Literacy Week activities. Your "Black Death" sessions enthralled the
Grade 8s---I loved watching their appalled faces as you elaborated on
14th.century hygiene. Many students stopped me in the hall afterwards
to say how much they'd enjoyed the morning, and all our copies of the
Eagle Glen trilogy are now out. You have a real gift for pitching your
talk to your audience, and making the writing life real to students. I
look forward to your next visit."
kc dyer is available
to come to your English/Writing and Social Studies classes. An
ex-teacher and award-winning writer, kc dyer has spoken before
thousands of students in grades 7 – 12. She has appeared as a presenter
at the Surrey International Writers’ Conference, the Canadian Authors
Association, Word on the Street and many other events. In the fall of
2007, kc toured Ontario as a selected author with CCBC's Canadian
Children's Book Week. In 2009, she was writer-in-residence at New
Westminster Secondary School, in New Westminster, British Columbia.
kc is a member of
CWILL BC and The Writers' Union of Canada, both of which offer programs
to assist schools and libraries in arranging author visits. For
details, please contact us.
Time slots are
filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please respond early if
you are interested in booking kc dyer.

kc's PRESENTATION DETAILS:
Topics include the
European historical eras of Middle Ages/Black Plague, Renaissance and
Reformation, the Inquisition and many other fun, gory and interesting
elements of history. kc dyer is also happy to talk about the subject of
her latest novel: the perhaps less gory (but no less interesting)
history of our own country, Canada. The new novel has Immigration as
its central theme – it is a look at how different families came to
Canada.
As an active
freelance writer and novelist, kc dyer can also address the questions
of aspiring writers regarding making a living as a writer, the
publishing business in Canada and more.
kc dyer communicates
with teens in a way that both entertains and educates. She uses
handouts when appropriate. She works with the teacher or librarian to
ensure the presentation is structured to suit each class. The talk
includes discussion and interaction, and if requested, a short reading
from her books.
Overview from kc:
I will present to
grades 5 – 12, and to adult learners.
I can also talk
about writing to younger students and will do presentations to aspiring
writers in post-secondary education.
Maximum preferred
group size: 60 [I can be flexible on group size and will lecture to
larger groups, but below 60 is best for presentations].
I offer:
Writing workshops to
grades 5 - 12.
Professional
Development workshops for students and adults.
Grade 12 Writers'
Craft Workshops
I am most
comfortable presenting in a classroom or library, but am happy to
discuss other venues.
I require: An
easel or white board. I also require teachers to be present with
their classes during the presentations.
