Vicki
Grant

Authors’
Booking Service is pleased to announce that 2008 Silver Birch nominee and
Young Adult author, Vicki
Grant, is now scheduling visits to Ontario schools for the coming
school year. Vicki
would love to plan a visit to your school or library.
Vicki lives in Nova Scotia. In order to make travel expenses more
predictable, this author charges a flat travel/acccommodation fee of
$50 per session.
Her rates are as follows:
One session: $300 plus GST..
Two sessions at the same
venue: $550 plus GST.
Three
sessions at the same venue $800 plus GST.
Four sessions at the same venue:
$1000 plus GST.
Please note: The bulk savings can be shared between schools. For
example, if two neighbouring schools book two sessions each on the same
day, they can split the four session rate.
After a career as
an advertising and television writer, Vicki published her first novel, The
Puppet Wrangler, in 2004. She was immediately hooked on
writing for
YAs. Quid pro Quo, her next novel,
quickly became a bestseller
and won The Arthur Ellis award for Best Juvenile Crime fiction.
Vicki also has a
particular interest in reluctant readers. Dead-End Job, a
thriller for young adults, and Pigboy,
a comic adventure for 10
to 14 year olds, were both chosen as Quick Picks by the American
Library Association.
“One of the
funniest writers working today” (The Vancouver Sun), Vicki lives in
Halifax with her husband and three children.
Linda
Arsenault, head librarian of the Pictou- Antigonish Regional Library
says:
“Vicki is an
absolute delight to work with from every aspect
involved in hosting an author reading. She has a most warm and kind
disposition and all ages relish her keen sense of humour. Her readings
are well organized and her easy style allows her reading and workshops
to make a mark with children and adults too. Vicki has become a friend
of our library. Children love her books and both students and teachers
often ask us “When is Vicki coming back?’”
Vicki is a member
of The Writers' Union of Canada, and
so schools wishing to invite her may be eligible for a travel and fee
subsidy to offset the cost of her visit. For details of this program,
please contact us.

Vicki’s Presentation Details
My
presentations begin with a short discussion of the various types of
writing I’ve made my living at over the years: public relations,
advertising, and television. I look at how each has influenced my work
as an author of juvenile and YA fiction. (The tone and content of the
discussion depends on the age and interests of the students.) I then
read short passages from my books and entertain questions from the
students.
Each school I visit receives a
signed Puppet Wrangler poster.
I will present to grades 4 through 12
Maximum number of students
per session: 100
I may be flexible on numbers. Make
your case!
I offer workshops for grades 6 and up
Maximum participants for workshop: 25
I also offer...
Professional Development Workshops
Grade 12 Writers' Craft Workshops
I’m comfortable in a classroom,
library, auditorium or gymnasium but I prefer smaller groups.
I have no equipment
requirements.
