Vicki Grant

One of the funniest writers working today.” Vancouver Sun

Authors’ Booking Service is pleased to announce that Vicki Grant is now scheduling visits to Ontario schools for the coming school year.

One session: $300, two: $550 three: $800, four: $1000. The only other costs are HST and local travel. If Vicki is at your school for the day, a simple lunch is appreciated as it is difficult to pack a lunch from a hotel room.

Please note: The bulk savings can be shared between neighbouring schools for same-day visits.

After a career in advertising and television, Vicki published her first novel, The Puppet Wrangler, in 2004. She was immediately hooked on writing for Young Adults. Her next book, Quid pro Quo, quickly became a bestseller and won The Arthur Ellis award for Best Juvenile Crime fiction.

Not Suitable for Family Viewing, her latest YA mystery, has been chosen as an OLA Best Bet, a CLA Best Book and nominated for many awards including the Red Maple.

Vicki also has a particular interest in reluctant readers. Dead-End Job, a thriller for young adults, and Pigboy, a comic adventure for 10 to 14 year olds, were both chosen as Quick Picks by the American Library Association.

Vicki is an absolute delight to work with from every aspect involved in hosting an author reading. She has a most warm and kind disposition and all ages relish her keen sense of humour. Her readings are well organized and her easy style allows her reading and workshops to make a mark with children and adults too. Vicki has become a friend of our library. Children love her books and both students and teachers often ask us “When is Vicki coming back?’” Linda Arsenault, Pictou- Antigonish Regional Library

Vicki is a member of The Writers' Union of Canada, and so schools wishing to invite her may be eligible for a travel and fee subsidy to offset the cost of her visit. For details of this program, please contact us.

Presentation Details

I try to keep my presentations fun, lively and geared to the interests of the class. I usually start with a brief overview of the long and winding road I stumbled down on my way to becoming a writer. I look at how each of my previous careers – class clown, waitress, advertising copywriter, scriptwriter - has influenced my work as an author of YA fiction. I then read short passages from my books and entertain questions from the students.

I present to grades 5 through 12.

Maximum number of students per session: 100

(I’ve been known to give a little leeway on numbers. Make your case.)

I offer workshops for grades 6 and up.

Maximum participants for workshop: 25

I also offer...

Professional Development Workshops

Grade 12 Writers' Craft Workshops

I’m comfortable in a classroom, library, auditorium or gymnasium but I prefer smaller groups.

I have no equipment requirements at the moment but I’m working on a Power Point presentation so let’s talk.
