Tania's Presentation Details

My aim is to provide a lively, entertaining presentation and to shed some light on the process of illustrating a children's book.
I like to talk a bit about my history, that I have been drawing since I was a little child and later went to art school.  I will then read the book to set the mood.  I bring along my sketchbooks and like to show each step of the process, with the help of a digital projector, from rough character sketches, to thumbnail, revisions, large roughs and final full colour images.  This helps children to understand that a book does not appear fully formed on bookshelves but goes through many transformations before it is finished.  I incorporate drawing demonstrations to show how I might make a character look shy or confident, all with the use of line and expression.  Questions and comments are encouraged as well as drawing requests.  An activity sheet and/or coloring sheet is provided and can be run off by teachers at the school.
Grades I will present to: K - 3, as these are the intended audiences for my books.
Maximum number of students per session:  60
I am comfortable presenting in: classroom, library, auditorium, gymnasium, etc.

Equipment and other requirements

Flip chart or blackboard. Markers.
Laptop and projector for Power Point presentation
I request that a librarian, teacher or other school representative be present throughout the presentation.
