Authors’ Booking Service is pleased to announce that children’s author Shannon T. Boodram, is now scheduling visits to Ontario schools for the coming school year.

Shannon would love to plan a visit to your school or library.  Her rate is $250 plus GST per session, plus travel.

Here’s what Teacher/Librarian Roxanne Chee of Central Tech has to say about Shannon's presentations:

Shannon Boodram visited with my Girlz 2 Women club at Central Technical School on May 14, 2009.  I can’t express to you what a great thrill it was for the girls to have an opportunity to speak with such an accomplished young woman! Through her honesty and enthusiasm, she got them energized and really to learn all about self-confidence, female empowerment, media perceptions and the television industry. The girls candidly shared their experiences and revealed sides of themselves that I had not seen before.

Truly, Ms. Boodram has a gift for bringing out the best qualities in young people.  And, doing so in a delightfully natural way!  The “throw” that she taught the girls is something they still excitedly speak about today. I wanted you to know how impressed I and the other teachers present at her seminar were by this very capable and charming young woman.

Shannon is a member of The Writers' Union of Canada, and so schools wishing to invite her may be eligible for a travel and fee subsidy to off-set the cost of her visit. Contact us for details of this program.

Presentation Details

Laid is a young adult anthology on what it means to be sexually active in today’s easy access culture. The book is based on a big sister/big brother approach to sexual education by having youth ages 18-25 share a monumental sexual experience – in great detail – that they believe others can learn from.

For teens/ young adults: Today’s youth have access to so much information and privacy much sooner than in previous generations. Since most authorities are not able to monitor every website, text conversation and social account, children need to be sexually savvy enough to control their own sexuality starting in their early teens. The presentation will focus on Laid and its form of sexual education. Youth will be engaged in an open and honest discussion about sex and sexuality in the media and they will also be encouraged to share stories and ask questions.

The presentation will include an activity that illustrates how males vs. females feel about sex, anatomy charts, myth vs fact trivia and excerpts from the book.

Laid promotes a self-created model called S.U.P.E.R. sex that encourages people to seek out a sexual life that is: Set on your terms, Uses protection, Partner that pleases, Emotionally wise, and Responsible.

For Parents/ teachers/ guardians of teens: Many adults are absolutely clueless on how/ what to say to their children about sex so this presentation will focus on how people of authority should redirect their approach to “the talk.” The author, a 24-year-old host of a high school TV show, has extensive experience talking to youths about sex and thinks that adults have much to learn on how to effectively communicate with the new-age generation. In addition, using excerpts from the book as the basis, parents will learn what challenges and situations their teenage children are going to be faced with.

The presentation will include role playing, media trivia and open dialog on attendees personal experiences from their teens.

For children 10-13: The author of Laid, Shannon, has published a book, opened a photography business, won awards for her work as an on-air personality and interviewed celebrities such as Drake, Natsha Bedingfield, Robin Thicke, Robin Antin (Pussy Cat Dolls manager), Simple Plan, Girlicious, Ciara, Deborah Cox and Keri Hilson.

This presentation will focus on pursuing the career of your dreams, getting published and managing your own success.
