Mireille Messier



Author’s Booking Service is pleased to announce that French children’s
book author Mireille Messier
is now accepting requests for school visits in the Greater Toronto
Area. She would be delighted to come to your school or library to meet
young readers from junior kindergarten to grade 8. Mireille can
present in French, English or both. Her rate is of $225 per
session (min. 2 /max. 5 sessions per day). Please book early as
Mireille’s schedule fills up fast!
Mireille Messier is a
Montreal-born, Ottawa-raised and now Toronto-based writer.
Most of Mireille’s books are published in French and range in genre –
from picture books, to short novels and non-fiction. She also writes
for various children’s magazines (Owl, Yes, Know, Les débrouillards)
and youth television shows (MégaTFO, Les Jumeaux Zimmer, Kids CBC).
Mireille Messier is a
professional member of l’Association des auteurs de l’Ontario Français
(AAOF), which offers a program to financially assist French and
immersion schools in arranging author visits. For details of this program, please contact

Mireille is also a member of The Writers' Union of Canada and so
schools wishing to invite her may be eligible for a travel and fee
subsidy to off-set the cost of her visit. For details of this program,

Mireille’s
Presentation Details
Grades JK – 3:
Mireille introduces herself and her books. She gives a quick overview
of the different types of writing she does and familiarizes the kids
with the terminology surrounding book genres and various book-related
careers. She then reads from one or two of she picture books in her
special giant book. If time permits, this is followed by a Q&A
period.
Grades 3-6: Mireille
introduces herself and her books. She gives an overview of the
different types of writing she does and familiarizes the participants
with the terminology surrounding book genres and various book-related
careers in both French and English. She reads an excerpt from her novel
Déclic à Toronto and then leads an interactive
oral workshop about different techniques to find original story ideas
prompted by photographs and objects. This is followed by a Q&A
period.
Grades 4-8,
Translating Adventure: Mireille also offers a workshop on the joys and
challenges of translation. Using her books LUCA & Night Flight as a
template, she demonstrate how she translated a rhyming picture book
from French to English. She then leads a fun interactive group activity
where participants try to translate French nursery rhymes into English
and vice versa.

Equipment required:
blackboard or flip chart sheets, a table, a chair. For large groups a
