Lana’s
Presentation Details
My
animated presentations are aimed to provide an informal entertaining
look at the craft of creating a picture book. Through my own personal
experience, I walk the children through the steps of creating a
picture book, from inspiration to hard cover. From my years of notes
on scrap pages to my final edits with my editor I show the children
how writing is often rewriting! I always finish with reading the
story and share with the children things I was surprised about when I
finally saw the illustrations!
I
speak to the magic of picture books in explaining why you are never
too old or too young to enjoy a great picture book.
I
also describe the importance of writing what you know as I give
insight into freelance writing and show examples of my other
published works in parenting magazines and children’s magazines.
When
possible, I do a ‘magic microphone’ craft with the younger
children and talk about the importance of using your own ‘big
strong voice’.
With
older children I concentrate more on the editing process.
Grades
I will present to: K - 12.
Maximum number of
students per session: 75-80
I
am comfortable presenting in: classroom, library, auditorium, and
gymnasium.
Equipment
and other requirements
Flip
chart or blackboard. Markers.
Sheets of letter-sized
paper.
Overhead Projector for presentation (confirmed if required
with each booking)
I request that a librarian, teacher or other
school representative be present throughout the presentation.
