Authors’ Booking Service is pleased to announce that young adult author Julie Burtinshaw, is now scheduling visits to Ontario for the coming school year.
Burtinshaw would love to plan a visit to your school or library. Her rate is $250 per 60-minute session, with a maximum of four sessions in a day ($1000) plus travel.
Burtinshaw is a member of The Writers' Union of Canada, and so schools wishing to invite her may be eligible for a travel and fee subsidy to offset the cost of her visit. Contact us for details of this program.
Here is a current review of Burtinshaw’s new novel, The Darkness Between the Stars, (2011):
Beautifully written, yet painful and real! Burtinshaw weaves a story that stands out and shows the harmful results of teenage depression, not only on the teen, but on everyone around them. It also is a touch comforting with the clear love that Kate has for her brother. The book is provocative and a touch rough at times, but it is a story that I feel needs told.
Burtinshaw receives praise from teaches/students and librarians wherever she has presented. Julie is known for her ability to engage her audience. Teens respond to her remarkably well.

Presentation Details
Julie has read and workshopped in numerous schools across Canada, as well as participated in most of Canada’s International Writers’ Festivals. She is a regular keynote speaker/teen mentor at the Canadian Children’s Book Camp held each year in Vancouver, British Columbia and in 2010 she was one of the teen mentors workshopping and teaching students from the ages of 13 to 17. Her workshops are designed according to the age of the students participating. They are most successful with grades seven and up. These highly interactive workshops are lively, fun and are meant to encourage students to learn to love both reading and writing. The content is as listed below;
