Silver Birch Non-fiction Nominee 2010







Authors’ Booking Service is pleased to announce that children’s author Hugh Brewster is now scheduling school visits. Hugh lives in Toronto but is willing to travel within southern Ontario and often gives talks when in other Canadian cities.

His fee is $275.00 per talk plus GST and standard kilometrage. For two presentations the fee is $525.00.

Hugh is a member of the The Writer's Union of Canada which also provides support for talks.

Presentations

Hugh gives innovative  A/V presentations on several subjects: 

DIEPPE, On Juno Beach, and At Vimy Ridge  

This presentation combines slides and live footage and focuses on DIEPPE while bringing in the stories of Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach.

Best For: Grades 4-8.  Also good for high school and adult audiences. 

Canada’s Dinosaurs 

For Breakout Dinosaurs, Hugh gives a lively slideshow featuring some of the art from the book plus photos of dinosaur bones and fossils.

Best for:  Grades 1-4.  
 
 

Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose 

A laptop slideshow with music combined with paintings and photographs evokes the world that John Singer Sargent painted. Hugh wears a Victorian gentleman's outfit for this talk.

Best For: Grades 3-6. Also popular with adults. 

The Titanic: 

A popular slideshow about the ever-haunting story of the Titanic and the two books Hugh has written about it. Hugh also  talks about working with Robert Ballard, the man who discovered the Titanic in 1985.

Best for: Grades 3-8 

 

Equipment and other requirements

    * A digital projector and screen and extension cord.

    * Bottled water would be much appreciated.

     •Am comfortable with groups of all sizes though up to 75 is ideal.

     •Can present to grades 1 to 12, and can also present to adult groups.
