Dyer

Authors’
Booking Service is pleased to announce that children’s author Hadley
Dyer is now scheduling visits to Ontario schools for the coming school
year.
Hadley will
be in the Toronto area throughout the school year and is available to
travel to some areas of the province from January onward, and would
love to plan a visit to your school or library. Her rate is $250
per session, travel from downtown Toronto.
Hadley Dyer
has written a dozen non-fiction children's books and one novel, Johnny Kellock Died
Today, which won the Canadian Library Association's Book of the
Year for Children Award, was named an Honour Book for the CLA's Young
Adult Book Award and TD Canadian Children's Literature Award, and was a
finalist for three reader's choice awards. She has also wielded a red
pencil as an editor of books for children and teens. A complete
bibliography and details of her presentation follow.
Here’s what Martha
Martin, Teacher-Librarian, LaSalle Public School has to say about this author:
"I've heard
Hadley Dyer present twice now, and
she's impressed both times. She's well-prepared, injects humourous
asides into her presentation, and is charming and responsive to
questions from the audience. Her understanding of the writing process
is, of course, extensive as well."
Time slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please
respond early if you are interested in booking .

Presentation Details
Because of
my varied career background, I can present a number of topics,
including researching non-fiction projects, the writing process,
author-editor relationships, how to improve writing through
self-editing, and how publishing works. Need to inject some new energy
into a curriculum book? I can do that too! Or I can simply do a
traditional reading and Q&A period. My forthcoming book on public
space for ages 12 and up touches on everything from art, architecture,
and advertising to public behaviour, teen activism, and social justice
issues. I'm happy to tailor my presentation to suit the age of the group
and wishes of the host.
I will
present to grades 2 to 12.
This covers
the range for which I have written and/or edited books, but I can also
work with young children and adults.
Maximum audience
size: No max.
I offer
workshops for grades 4 and up.
Maximum number of
participants: No max.
I also
offer:
Professional
Development Workshops
Grade 12
Writers' Craft Workshops
Maximum
participants for workshop: No max.
I am
comfortable presenting in a classroom, library, auditorium, or
gymnasium.
I require a
table for my presentation material and a microphone for groups of more
than 50. For workshops that involve specific examples of writing or
editing, I use an overhead projector.
