Authors' Booking Service
is pleased to announce that author Deborah
Ellis is now booking
presentations with us through the Forest of Reading
program.
Deborah Ellis is the internationally acclaimed author of a number of award-winning titles for children, including the Breadwinner trilogy, No Ordinary Day, and True Blue. A peace activist and humanitarian field worker, Deborah has traveled the world to meet with and hear the stories of children marginalized by poverty, war, and illness.
Deborah's rate is $250 per
session plus HST. Generally, she covers her own travel costs. If she
has to go far, she’ll need the cost of a cheap motel.
Here's what Deborah has to say
about her presentations:
The
world is an ever-changing place, and we humans, through our choices,
determine whether those changes will be positive or negative. The
presentations explore the impact of big and small choices on the
world around us and look at how we can learn to make better choices.
There is a focus on social justice and on bringing a global
perspective to our daily lives. My books take place in a wide
variety of places – Afghanistan, the Middle East, southern Africa,
Bolivia, Europe and North America – so I talk about the folks I’ve
met, what their lives are like and what I’ve learned from them.
I can also do workshops with students who are interested in writing.
I
am also looking for input from students for a new book that’s in
the works. The working title is Adults
Behaving Badly, looking at
the ways the bad behaviour of adults affects kids and what kids can
do about it.
Deborah is a member of The
Writers' Union of Canada, and so schools wishing to invite her may be
eligible for a travel and fee subsidy to off-set the cost of her
visit. For details of this program, please contact us.
Time slots are filled on
a first-come, first-serve basis, so please contact us early if you
are interested in booking Deborah Ellis.
