Bringing the Past to Life in Today’s Classrooms

As writers we are deeply passionate about our stories and sharing them with our young audience. Because we carry this passion in ourselves, we are able to pass it on. Miriam Körner has a never-ending curiosity about what life was like when our elders were young, when dog teams were the only means of winter transportation, when families lived on traplines, when rivers and lakes were waterways. Her presentations question the life we take for granted, but most importantly, her curiosity about life in the past has real impact in the classroom because it comes not through the lens of history books, but through lived experiences.

Olympic Level Effort – Bringing Professionals To Your School.

If you want to inspire students to succeed at sports you might ask a professional athlete to speak to them. The pro athlete can speak about perseverance, goal setting, constant practice to improve and finally, breaking into the professional ranks. They’ve done it and know the cost.

Why would you hire a professional author to visit your school?  These days just about anyone can self-publish a book or create an attractive online e-book.  The book will likely have an appealing cover and may contain some quality writing… or not.

Getting someone who has been professionally published to speak about writing is authentic. The professional author can speak about inspiration, re-writing, improving skills, and revising in order to gain that rare accomplishment of having their book selected from hundreds of submissions to be professionally published.  If you want your students to set high goals let them meet someone who set those goals and achieved them.  – Rene Schmidt (Rene is available to visit schools in the GTA and Eastern Ontario during the week before and the week after March Break. )
